FullBasin

Based on HydroSHEDS v2.0 (Lehner et al., 2022; data version 2.0), the 1 arc-second flow directions, about 30 m at the equator. FullBasin on HydroSHEDS v2.0 is an independent dataset and is not part of the official HydroSHEDS family of products.

The basin mask and the region masks of FullBasin, computed on HydroSHEDS v2.0 at 30 m, one continent at a time. Every land pixel is assigned to the outlet it drains to. Whole basins are gathered into basin groups along the HydroBASINS Level-01, Level-02 and Level-03 units. The continent is also divided into regions that fit a workstation's memory, at capacities of 160, 80 and 40 square degrees; a basin too large for one region is cut into pieces at tributary outlets, and every later step works one region at a time. Tables carry the 30 m numbers; the maps draw the same basins and regions, simplified. Licence: CC BY 4.0.

Where this stands

The first layers of FullBasin at 30 m. FullBasin at 90 m also has a per-pixel upstream index and sixteen upstream attributes; at 30 m these are not computed yet. This release is the complete division of North America and South America into basins and regions, with tables for every basin of at least 1 km², every basin group and every region. HydroSHEDS v2 has released the Americas so far; the other continents will follow as it releases them.

What is in the release

ReleasedBasin and region masks

The basin mask assigns every land pixel to the outlet it drains to; the outlets are numbered by the area they drain, largest first. It answers where a pixel drains to. The same basins are gathered into basin groups along the HydroBASINS Level-01, Level-02 and Level-03 units, and three region masks divide the continent at capacities of 160, 80 and 40 square degrees. The page shows the map on the left and the released tables on the right; choose the continent on the page.

LaterWhat drains into a pixel · what the upstream land is like

The per-pixel upstream index and the upstream attributes, released for FullBasin at 90 m, are not yet computed at 30 m.
